Questions about your project?

Will stain hide cracks?

Transparent stain can leave cracks and repairs visible. Resolve repair needs and review a representative sample before selecting the finish.

Can previously sealed concrete be stained?

It depends on the existing system, condition, and proposed product. Testing and preparation may require removal rather than simply adding color.

Is acid stain better than water-based stain?

The appropriate choice depends on the slab, desired appearance, exposure, and complete product system. Acid-reactive and water-based products do not all behave the same way.

Can a pool deck be made slip-proof?

No finish should be assumed slip-proof. Discuss wet traction, texture, maintenance, and product-specific options with the provider.

How is area calculated?

For a rectangle, multiply length by width in feet. Add separate zones and exclude untreated areas; stairs and irregular shapes need additional measurement.

When can furniture go back?

Use the installed product’s instructions and the provider’s confirmation. Foot traffic, furniture, water, and vehicles can have different return-to-use requirements.

Content updated

Stained concrete works best when the existing slab and the desired appearance suit each other. Preparation, a representative sample, and the complete sealer system matter as much as the selected color.

Plan San Antonio outdoor work around the product limits

For patios and pool surrounds, have the provider assess actual surface temperature, moisture, and the weather window. Discuss wet traction and drainage before choosing sheen. A decorative coat does not correct a low spot or moving crack.

Test before committing the whole floor

On an interior floor, removing carpet or tile may reveal adhesive, patches, or different pours. Ask for a sample using the proposed preparation and sealer. If a uniform appearance is essential, discuss whether a transparent finish can meet that goal.

Keep preparation visible in the budget

Use the area and budget planner to compare the area rate and excluded work. Stripping, repairs, borders, occupied-room phasing, and sealer can change the scope. The example figures illustrate arithmetic and are not verified San Antonio rates.

Select color, sealer, and care together

Compare acid and water-based systems using actual samples. Sherwin-Williams’ sealer selection guide is a useful reference for performance and maintenance questions. Obtain the selected system’s technical and care instructions for your exact use.

From slab assessment to finished space

  1. Document the surface history and visible concerns.
  2. Assess repairs, moisture, and old coatings.
  3. Prepare and approve a representative sample.
  4. Agree on protection, access, and the written scope.
  5. Complete preparation, coloring, and sealing under product instructions.
  6. Confirm return-to-use times and keep a maintenance record.

Plan the property, not just the color

Our service-area guides cover San Antonio, Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, and Cibolo. Include square footage, indoor or outdoor use, existing coatings, desired appearance, and access constraints when requesting an estimate.
